Abigail Hirsch is a Hungarian-born Montreal-based filmmaker and the founder of AskAbigail Productions. A professionally trained social worker, Hirsch launched her media career in Montreal in 2007. Hirsch has covered Jewish events in Montreal, Toronto, New York, and Israel including the Montreal/Israel Film Festival, Le Mood/Montreal, and the Montreal International Yiddish Theater Festival, engaging the public in a dialogue building peace and better understanding of Jewish culture and society.
AskAbigailProductions has also created a documentary about Yiddish theater and how it has manged to preserve the almost extinct language of Yiddish from the dustbin of History via theater in Yiddish, in Montreal, Paris, Israel, Poland Romania, Australia and Argentina:
Another project was a series of films about a class of High school students from Brossard, diagnosed with autism, who learn to create animated shorts via the Canadian National Film Board’s educational arm; This piece is called “Qui-es tu” “Who are You” . Another project describes the creation of a play and its production on stage by the same group of high functioning autistic high school students from Brossard, under the supervision and guidance of a professional theater director. This piece is called “Personnages en quete d’identite” – “Person in Search of an Identity”. A DVD of both projects was published. It is in French with English subtitles.
A current project is about the Life and times of Moshe Kraus, a legendary Cantor/Jewish singing prayer leader, whose life spans the twentieth century and whose history parallels the story of Jews in the twentieth century is underway.
