The incredible strength and resilience of Holocaust survivors and their descendants show the remarkable power of the human spirit. Their ability to overcome, rebuild, and thrive after unimaginable suffering is truly inspiring. My parents’ experiences in Hungary during the Nazi era, along with the tragic loss of three grandparents and many relatives at Auschwitz, have deeply influenced my views. These personal connections have made me question how such atrocities could happen and how their effects continue to resonate today.
Rooted in the Past
In Montreal, my family and I are part of a vibrant community of Holocaust survivors and their descendants. For us, the Holocaust is not just a historical event; it is a living memory that shapes our conversations, relationships, and sense of identity. Honouring the past involves both reflection and a commitment to continuing the legacy of those who came before us. In celebrating the past, I feel a responsibility to share these stories with future generations. By preserving their narratives, we hold a deep connection to our heritage.
This commitment has driven me to trace my family’s history across Hungary, Israel, and beyond. In my exploration, I’ve discovered how our narrative intertwines with many others, deepening my understanding of our legacy.
